My name is Rosa.
Although they usually call me Rosita.
I was born in Barcelona.
My whole family is Catalan.
I was born two months premature, and a twin.
And when I was born, I weighed 700 grams.
I spent nine months in a shoebox as an incubator.
People who came said I wouldn't survive because I was so small.
Because I was as small as a newborn rabbit.
But here I am at 93 years old, despite being told I wouldn't make it.
I've been coming to this community center since I became a widow 13 years ago.
I do many activities.
I sing gospel, I also sing, I do memory exercises, I do crafts.
Now I'm learning to use the phone a bit more.
I sign up for everything that happens here at the center.
Oh.
And the joy of my old age, the bicycles.
This has given me a life you can't imagine - how much it fills me, the bicycles.
Rosita!
We're going for a ride, Rosita.
Again.
I'm getting it ready for you, one minute.
Just like always, you already know.
First this goes down.
I'll help you sit down.
Yes?
This goes back up.
I'm Didac and I'm your pilot for this episode of Joyride.
Let's go!
Rosita.
What?
We're going down now.
We're going to the beach now.
Today is beach day.
I found out about the program one day while walking on the beach.
I saw this tricycle with elderly people on it and it immediately caught my attention because it reminded me of my mother.
My mother spent her last years in a wheelchair.
I immediately wanted to get in touch with them to have the possibility of giving rides to elderly people just like I did with my mother for many years.
Oh, now is a good time to go to the beach because it's not too crowded yet.
This little outing will do me good.
I go out fewer times than I'd like.
I only recently started doing volunteer rides.
I've been doing it for about eight months.
I like to leave my mornings free so that I can go out once, twice, or three times a week.
They come to pick me up with the bicycles and take me all around Barcelona.
I'm with kind and affectionate people.
It's great, I have a good time because people look at me.
I greet them.
Hello!
Well, I have a blast.
Do you know each other?
Yes.
And I could walk down the street, but look, those with their phones don't look ahead.
If it's bicycles, they pass by.
And if it's scooters, they whiz by and I wobble.
So I don't feel safe to walk.
And this limits my life a lot and makes it poor because I can't go places.
I can't go to the movies.
I have to stay at home.
But these bicycles have given me a freedom that I didn't have.
Where do you want to go today?
Today we'll go here.
Tomorrow, we'll go there.
Well, well, well, let's go to the destination.
So many people here.
It seems that when you go to the beach, you open up more.
I don't know, when I go to the beach...
The same thing happens to me when I go to a show.
I enjoy it a lot.
In my youth, I liked going to the beach.
Honestly, it was to show off.
It's one of the things.
Because I had a slim figure.
I was very blonde with blue eyes, I had a nice body, and was young and kind of an airhead.
But I really liked going to the beach.
People don't have jobs.
Look.
Look at the bars.
Yes.
And it's a normal day, right?
I mean, yes, but it's already June and people are starting to travel.
They no longer take vacations just in July and August.
Now they do it throughout the year.
My first job, let me explain how I got it.
I walked into the store.
Then my father bought me several things, and when the girl added it up, she made a mistake.
Trying to be a bit interesting, I told her to check the bill because it was wrong.
And the owner, as he passes by and sees the mistake, says to me, I was twelve and a half years old, he says, would you like to work here as a cashier?
I say, well, well, I only know the small bills, the peseta, the two pesetas, And he says, you'll learn this quickly.
I started with the intention of staying until October, so three or four months.
And I stayed for eight years.
And at 20 years old, I said, well, you know what, I want to work in an office.
I worked until I was 82 years old.
Life has been very pleasant for me.
I have had three children who are now grown up.
I am also a great-grandmother.
And at 82, I had to retire because my husband got sick.
He passed away the same year he got sick.
He was sick for a very short time.
And then, one day my daughter says to me, "Mom, why don't you sign up at the community center?"
I said, "Well, I'll give it a try."
So, I tried it and I've been in this center for 13 years.
And at the center what do you do?
Or do you not go anymore?
Oh, what do you mean I don't go?
But normally, if there's nothing else, I go every day, right?
Yes.
Practically every day.
Yes, yes.
Do you have any kids?
What was that?
Do you have children?
No, not yet.
I say not yet, jokingly.
So you're single?
Yes, right now I am.
Relationships, more than one, but... For me, they were long, but for others, I don't know.
But of course, in comparison with...
But now, at this moment, you're single.
Right now, I'm single.
So, we'll go to the beach.
Maybe I'll even hook you up.
I can't say no to that.
If I were 40 years younger, I wouldn’t let you get away, you know.
I feel very young.
I am very flirtatious.
I am a very vain woman.
I always liked to go out looking very good, with my hair done.
I would go to the hairdresser on Saturday and Sunday was the wedding.
So I would spend the whole night sitting in a chair, leaning on the table, sleeping like that so I could go to the wedding with my hair well done.
I particularly like older people.
So I talk to them constantly It's important that they feel heard because it's wonderful to see a person when they feel listened to, especially at their age.
Almost unintentionally, they end up telling you things.
I would even say intimate things.
When I was 30 years old, I finally got my driver's license.
My husband wouldn't let me because he didn't like women driving.
Yeah, well, it was a different time, of course.
I bought a 600 and kept it hidden in a parking lot for a year.
Because I didn't know how to tell my husband that I had gotten a license and that I already had a car.
I have the opportunity to experience sharing and to give back what I received in my childhood to those who are now elderly to accompany them and make their lives much better.
Ever since I've discovered this cycling organization, it has given me youth.
It gives me a lot of life.
I feel loved, I feel like they are family because they treat me well, they treat me with such kindness and affection that, you could almost say even more than my children.
What could be better than spending a large part of the day with such wonderful people?
Well, I present you this gift.
Oh my.
Let me sit here next to you.
Come on.
Oh, goodness me!
What do you see here?
Oh here is Pepa.
Flor.
And who is this here?
It's me!
Look how gorgeous I looked.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Did you like it?
Yes, very much.
I'm going to make you a proposal.
So, we always come around here with the tricycle.
We always go to the beach.
But we've never gone swimming.
So I suggest we come one day and swim.
Okay.
But each with our own swimsuit, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm counting on you.
